PALM HARBOR, Fla., Nov. 12, 2024 — In a groundbreaking survey conducted by a prominent workforce development software provider, the employment search strategies of Gen Z, Millennials, Gen X, and Baby Boomers are put under the microscope. With a sample size of 500 eager job seekers, this study reveals the unique challenges and preferences each generation faces as they seek the perfect job in an ever-evolving landscape.

The findings are both compelling and revealing! A staggering 62% of Gen Z respondents identified the scarcity of job openings as their top stressor. Meanwhile, 67% of Millennials and 61% of Gen X lament the radio silence from potential employers as their primary source of anxiety. Baby Boomers, on the other hand, find themselves feeling the pressure from fierce competition and protracted interview processes.

Interestingly, the quest for fully remote positions appears to be waning. Only 13% of job seekers across all generations expressed a preference for entirely remote work. However, the data shows that nearly one-quarter of Baby Boomers favor remote roles over hybrid or in-person options. In contrast, the majority of Gen Z (57%) and Millennials (50%) lean toward hybrid arrangements, while Gen X shows a stronger inclination for traditional in-person roles.

Gen Z is particularly inclined to enhance their skill sets (60%), while a significant majority of Millennials (70%), Gen X (65%), and Baby Boomers (70%) are more likely to exaggerate their job titles.

The survey was meticulously conducted over several days using a leading audience research platform, polling a diverse group of 500 anonymous job seekers from various age groups and gender identities throughout the United States. All respondents had actively sought new employment within the past year, ensuring the relevance and accuracy of the findings.
