Unlock Your Potential at the STAR Resource Center: Discover What Awaits!
Are you a proud homeowner in New York State? Then you might be eligible for the fantastic School Tax Relief (STAR) program, designed to lighten the burden of property taxes!
If you qualify and are enrolled in the STAR program, here’s how you can receive your benefits every year:
- STAR Credit: If you’ve registered for the STAR credit, the Tax Department will send your benefits straight to you via check or direct deposit. You can use these funds to help pay your school taxes. To qualify, you must own your home as your primary residence, and the combined income of all owners and their spouses must be $500,000 or less.
- STAR Exemption: This option provides a direct reduction on your school tax bill. If you’ve been enjoying the STAR exemption since 2015, you can continue to reap its benefits as long as you still qualify. However, new homeowners will not be able to apply for this exemption.
