Mark Your Calendar: 6 Game-Changing Texas Laws Launching Jan. 1, 2025!
As the clock ticks down to the new year, Texas is set to roll out a series of game-changing laws!
With numerous bills from 2023 finally coming into action in 2025, Texans need to gear up for changes that could affect everything from your wallet to your rights. Buckle up as we dive into six pivotal laws debuting this January!
Property Tax Relief Act
Say goodbye to sky-high property taxes! The Property Tax Relief Act is here to ease the burden on homeowners. With new measures kicking in, expect more federal funding for schools when local tax revenue falls short, especially for our elderly and disabled communities.
This law aims to stabilize your property tax rates, which have surged since 1998. Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick hailed it as historic, declaring, “the biggest property tax cut in history is a massive victory for all 5.7 million Texas homeowners!”
Texas Data Privacy and Security Act
Get ready for a privacy revolution with the Texas Data Privacy & Security Act. This new law empowers you to take control of your data when interacting with businesses online. Say goodbye to invasive targeted ads and hello to transparency!
Businesses must now respect your choices, and those who don’t could face serious consequences. It’s time for Texans to demand their data rights!
San Antonio River Authority’s fiscal year shifts
A fresh change is on the horizon for the San Antonio River Authority! The Texas House Bill 1535 adjusts the fiscal year to conclude on September 30, starting in 2025, ensuring smoother operations and financial planning.
State vehicle inspections no longer required; emissions testing still required for some counties
Big news for Texas drivers! Under House Bill 3297, noncommercial drivers will no longer need to endure those tedious annual inspections. Instead, you’ll simply pay a $7.50 replacement fee when registering your vehicle.
Rep. Cody Harris hit the nail on the head: “These inspections are a waste of time for Texas citizens,” he said. “I trust Texans to keep their rides road-ready!”
However, don’t forget—17 counties will still require emissions inspections. So, keep your eyes on the road and your ear to the ground for updates!

Establishment of the 477th Judicial District
Revamping our judicial system is in the cards with House Bill 3474! This law will create the brand-new 477th Judicial District in Denton County, a move aimed at enhancing our legal framework.
Code of Criminal Procedure revision
We’re not just changing laws; we’re making them clearer! House Bill 4505 refines existing criminal procedures, ensuring everyone can understand their rights without getting lost in legal jargon. This is all part of a broader initiative to make Texas laws more accessible.
