Attention! IRS Warns 14 States: Don’t Miss Your Tax Deadline!

Attention, taxpayers! If you’re living in one of 14 states, the IRS has an important update that could be a game-changer for you. Get ready to breathe a sigh of relief because you might just have a little more time to file your tax returns!

Why You Should Care

Did you know the IRS provides relief by extending tax filing and payment deadlines for areas hit hard by disasters? That’s right! When the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) designates an area as a disaster zone, you could find yourself with extra time to tackle your tax obligations. Avoiding potential penalties from the IRS has never been more crucial!

What You Need to Know

Here’s the scoop: residents of Louisiana and Vermont, along with all of Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, as well as parts of Arizona, Connecticut, Illinois, Kentucky, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, New York, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Texas, and Washington state now have until February 3, 2025, to file their 2023 tax returns. This extension comes in light of severe weather and natural disasters affecting these regions.

This extended deadline isn’t just for individuals; businesses that had an original filing due by April 15, 2024, can take advantage of this too. Plus, it includes quarterly tax payment estimates due after the disaster strikes your area.
