Jagmeet Singh’s Surprising Take on Trudeau’s Shocking Resignation!
Burnaby South’s very own MP and leader of the NDP, Jagmeet Singh, hosted an electrifying online press conference on January 6, 2025, that resonated with countless Canadians. This came in the wake of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s resignation. In his address, Singh laid bare the pressing issues plaguing our society: soaring housing prices, grocery bills that make you cringe, and healthcare challenges. He championed the NDP’s plans for pharmacare and dental health for seniors, casting a stern light on the Liberal government’s failures regarding the rising cost of living while taking sharp jabs at the Conservatives under Pierre Poilievre.
Singh didn’t shy away from addressing international concerns either, mentioning the potential repercussions of President-elect Donald Trump’s threats to Canada, including tariffs that could jeopardize thousands of Canadian jobs.
“They’ve let you down on housing. They’ve let you down on living expenses. This isn’t just about Justin Trudeau; it’s every Liberal minister who turned a blind eye when you said you couldn’t make ends meet. We are in a crisis,” Singh passionately declared. “And let’s not forget about Pierre Poilievre and the Conservatives—they aim to rob from the middle class to line the pockets of their wealthy CEO friends.”
Singh emphasized the potential cuts the Conservatives intend to make affecting pensions, healthcare, and dental care. He then highlighted the NDP’s commitment to providing dental care for our beloved senior citizens.
“I’ve met seniors who are suffering from pain because they can’t afford dental care. To hear their heartbreaking stories is a call to action,” Singh vowed. “I promised these seniors that I would fight tirelessly to ensure they get the dental care they deserve.”

Singh noted that Poilievre and the Conservatives have cozied up to billionaire CEOs over the past two years, prioritizing their interests over those of everyday Canadians.
“In the last 24 months, he has met with over 100 corporate lobbyists and held fundraisers in luxurious mansions, showcasing exactly who he’s working for—the billionaires, the elite,” Singh asserted.
When queried about Trudeau’s legacy, Singh sidestepped the question, reiterating the overwhelming burden of high housing and living costs imposed by the Liberals.
“One thing that struck me is how much Justin Trudeau values his family. I sincerely hope that now, with this decision made, he spends more time with them,” Singh added.
Over the past two years, the NDP has made significant strides, introducing anti-scab legislation to safeguard union workers, advancing pharmacare legislation, and rolling out free dental care for seniors, children under 18, and individuals with disabilities. The introduction of Bill C-64, which became law in October 2024, marks a promising first step towards universal pharmacare for Canadians, currently offering free diabetes medication and contraception.
