Welcome to the **Total Health and Wellness** journey—a groundbreaking initiative that’s revolutionizing healthcare access right here in Ohio! As a proud part of Ohio State’s Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), this community-centered clinic has been dedicated to serving all individuals, no matter their financial situation, since its inception in 2012. It’s a shining example of what happens when compassion meets commitment to health!
Now, with an exciting expansion in partnership with the **Ohio State Wexner Medical Center**, the program is evolving into the newly minted
The Ohio State University Total Health Care Center. This initiative is set to provide our medically underserved neighbors with unprecedented access to a full spectrum of health services. We’re talking about a brand-new dental clinic, specialty care, pharmacy services, vision care, and so much more—all designed to empower you on your health journey!
“From day one, we’ve been on a mission to care for the whole person and help individuals manage chronic conditions and health concerns,” says
Candy Rinehart, DNP, APRN-CNP, the driving force behind the Total Health Care Center. “Our interdisciplinary, team-based approach has significantly enhanced outcomes for countless patients, and we’re thrilled to continue fostering trust and care within this vibrant community.”
This clinic isn’t just another healthcare provider. With existing locations at Ohio State East Hospital and St. Vincent Family Services, the Family Community Medicine at Outpatient Care East has recently joined the FQHC, dramatically increasing the number of patients served by 50%! Talk about a win for community health!
“We’re eager to collaborate with the Total Health Care Center and the FQHC model,” shares Ryan Haley, senior director of ambulatory services at Ohio State Wexner Medical Center. “This model effectively addresses the critical gaps in healthcare that too often affect the medically underserved.”
Recognizing the essential role of dental health in overall well-being, Rinehart has long sought to incorporate dental services into the FQHC. Thanks to the dedicated efforts of State Sen. Hearcel F. Craig (D-Columbus), who championed the cause, they successfully secured $1.2 million in state funding to make this dream a reality!
“Enhancing the health of our Columbus residents is my foremost priority,” states
Sen. Craig. “I’m proud to have advocated for this clinic at the Statehouse for years. Good dental health is vital, particularly for children; it lays the groundwork for improved overall health and confidence, paving the way for their success in school and beyond. By investing in this clinic, we’re not just supporting our neighbors’ well-being; we’re building bridges to opportunity for families and individuals, ensuring a brighter future for our communities.”
Guess what? The new **Outpatient Care East Dental Clinic** is now open and ready for appointments! Patients will be seen by a skilled dentist and hygienist from the renowned **Ohio State College of Dentistry** in six fully equipped treatment spaces.
“As professionals in dental care, we recognize that good oral health is a cornerstone of overall wellness. We’re thrilled to collaborate with the medical center and College of Nursing to offer dental services at Outpatient Care East. Our goal is to create a nurturing environment for both adults and children on their path to excellent oral health,” shares
Matthew Messina, DDS, associate professor at the College of Dentistry.
