FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. – Exciting news is buzzing in the world of health care! Chad A. Perlyn, M.D., Ph.D., MBA, has been appointed as the new executive vice president and chief medical officer at Nova Southeastern University (NSU), along with stepping into the role of executive medical director for NSU Health. This pivotal transition takes effect on December 1, setting the stage for Dr. Perlyn to become an influential force in shaping the future of health care education and patient care.

In his role as chief medical officer, Dr. Perlyn will lead the charge for NSU’s dynamic health care network, encompassing seven colleges and over 70 diverse practice areas. His mission? To enhance strategic development at NSU Health and elevate the quality of medical and clinical functions across the university’s extensive health care enterprise.

NSU’s health care colleges are a powerhouse for education, offering a wide array of degrees in medicine, dental medicine, nursing, pharmacy, and more. Dr. Perlyn will collaborate across these disciplines, driving the integration of education, research, and patient care to ensure top-notch outcomes for patients while nurturing a new generation of innovative health care leaders.

“This position represents a critical leadership opportunity for our university and its network of health care clinics,” expressed Dr. Harry K. Moon, NSU’s president-elect. “Dr. Perlyn’s remarkable track record at Nicklaus Children’s Health System speaks volumes about his capabilities as a nationally recognized health care leader and pediatric surgeon. His leadership over the past 15 years has been transformative, and we are thrilled to welcome him aboard.”

Throughout his tenure at Nicklaus Children’s, Dr. Perlyn catalyzed tremendous growth, expanding the physician group practice by an astonishing 50 percent. His strategic initiatives didn’t just elevate numbers; they enhanced the entire clinician experience, ensuring a culture of excellence and integration across the board.

“Joining NSU is an extraordinary honor,” said Dr. Perlyn. “I am eager to dive into this role, collaborating with academic leaders to revolutionize health care education while enhancing clinical services for the best patient outcomes. Together, we will cultivate the next wave of health care innovators!”

Dr. Perlyn is poised to spearhead initiatives that will expand interconnected patient care, advance research programs, and create a welcoming environment for patients and caregivers alike—embracing the forefront of academic medicine.

“Dr. Chad Perlyn is a shining star in transformational leadership,” said NSU President George L. Hanbury. “His arrival, alongside Dr. Moon and our dedicated communities, reinforces NSU’s ambition to not just be Florida’s largest private research university, but also its finest. We are absolutely delighted to have him on our executive team.”

Board certified in plastic surgery, Dr. Perlyn is not only a leader in health care but also a dedicated practitioner. He will continue to care for young patients with congenital differences as a pediatric plastic surgeon at Nicklaus Children’s Pediatric Specialists.

Since joining Nicklaus Children’s in 2009, Dr. Perlyn has excelled in various leadership roles, laying the groundwork for a new era in pediatric care. His global health initiatives, particularly in response to the 2010 Haiti earthquake, showcase his commitment to making health care accessible worldwide. He actively directs a fellowship program in Haiti and collaborates with organizations in Peru to ensure comprehensive surgical care.

Dr. Perlyn received his M.D. from the University of Miami, completed surgical training at Washington University/Barnes-Jewish Hospital, and earned his Ph.D. in craniofacial molecular biology at the University of Oxford. His diverse educational background, coupled with a master’s degree in health care management, positions him as a multifaceted leader ready to tackle today’s health care challenges.
