Nikki Glaser’s Health Journey: Surgery Secrets & Vocal Cord Update!
The 2025 Golden Globes are just around the corner this Sunday, and the talented comedian Nikki Glaser is gearing up to take the stage as host for the very first time. Her excitement is palpable, but so are her nerves—especially when it comes to ensuring she stays healthy throughout the event.
“The absolute worst thing that could happen is if I faint or suffer some kind of stroke,” she quipped with her signature humor. “Those are my biggest worries, but the material is there… I just feel confident.”
To nail her monologue, Nikki has left no stone unturned—she utilized two writers’ rooms and ran through her material 91 times to perfect every punchline.
But there’s more to the story. Recently, Nikki disclosed that she made the decision to postpone a surgery so she could fulfill her hosting duties. So, what’s the scoop on Nikki’s health? Let’s dive into what she’s been sharing.
She postponed plastic surgery to host the Golden Globes.
At 40 years old, Nikki isn’t dealing with an injury—rather, she’s delaying a surgical procedure she had been considering. “So, for January 2025, I was planning on possibly getting a brow lift or something really invasive I’ve been contemplating,” she revealed.
However, her agents had another idea. They reached out, asking if she could push back the surgery to host the awards show. “They were like, ‘Is there any chance you could delay the operation until the second week of January?’” she joked.
She previously had surgery on her vocal cords.
This isn’t Nikki’s first time navigating the surgical landscape—back in 2022, she had to postpone multiple tour dates to undergo a procedure on her vocal cords.
“Basically, my voice is fried, and I’m having it repaired,” she shared on social media. “I’m so excited about this. It’s not going to be painful, and it’s going to change my life. The only downside is that recovery means I won’t be able to speak for 3-5 weeks. Not a peep.”
In a light-hearted moment before her surgery, Nikki joked, “I cannot wait to not talk. The world deserves a break from my voice, frankly.”
She’s overcome eating disorders in the past.
In a heartfelt essay published in 2022, Nikki opened up about her nearly two-decade battle with various eating disorders. She shared that her struggle with anorexia began as a high school senior, leading her to go days without eating.
“I started to receive compliments like, ‘You look great! You must have lost weight!’ It felt like acing a test I didn’t study for. It was the best feeling,” she reflected. “I quickly became addicted to the results and the positive reinforcement.”
Nikki’s journey led her to hospitalization for her anorexia before college, followed by struggles with binge eating and bulimia in her 20s, which took a significant toll on her body.
Ultimately, Nikki found strength in a 12-step program, embracing three meals a day. “I used to get high off the feeling of hunger, but I do a lot of work to combat that now,” she said. “There are days I battle with gaining a few pounds or my jeans fitting too tight. But I remind myself: When you stop fighting it, and when you stop trying to control it, your body will be what it needs to be.”
