“She probably knew they had a lot of information on her,” Deputy U.S. Marshal Brandon Filla explained. Armstrong had quickly liquidated her assets, managing to pull together $12,200 in just 24 hours.

Armstrong was later seen boarding a flight from Austin to Houston, then to New York City. By the time authorities confirmed the gun found was the murder weapon, she had already escaped to Costa Rica using her sister’s passport.

A “small paper trail” eventually led the authorities to a hidden spot near the coast in Santa Teresa, Costa Rica. They set up surveillance, but Armstrong had transformed her look completely.
