Tammy Slaton’s Surgery Setback: Vaping Stands in the Way!

Meet Tammy Slaton: A woman on a transformative journey, but one habit stands in the way of her dream—vaping.

In the riveting season finale of 1000-Lb. Sisters, 38-year-old Tammy embarks on a journey to Pennsylvania alongside her supportive sisters, Misty and Amy. Together, they seek the expertise of a new plastic surgeon, hoping for the green light to undergo skin removal surgery. After being turned away by her previous surgeon, the stakes are high, and the tension is palpable.

“I want skin removed pretty much everywhere on my body—legs, stomach, arms, face. If only I could do it all at once!” Tammy expresses her struggle. “It’s tough just walking around. I move like a penguin; my belly goes one way while I try to go the other!”

Misty voices her concern, stating that Tammy seems “extremely nervous” after her previous setback. “It would be heartbreaking to see her come all this way just to be denied again,” she adds, echoing the fears we all feel when facing our challenges.

But hope shines through when Dr. Peter Rubin, a skilled plastic surgeon based in Pittsburgh, gives Tammy the thumbs up for skin removal on her lower stomach and chin. However, he clarifies that the rest of the work will need to be done in separate procedures.

Tammy’s reaction? Pure joy! “I’ve been waiting to hear that I can get my skin removed for so long,” she beams. “Once I shed this skin, I’m going to be a brand-new me—a model strutting down the catwalk!”

Yet, there’s a catch. Dr. Rubin reviews her lab results and emphasizes the need to boost her protein levels. He also inquires about her lung health, prompting Tammy to reveal a crucial detail.

“I haven’t told my doctors that I vape,” Tammy admits, highlighting her reliance on it for anxiety relief. “I vape every day, multiple times—even in the middle of the night.”

Dr. Rubin warns Tammy that continuing to use nicotine products could severely hinder her recovery, leading to complications with wound healing. “We need to get you off vaping entirely, and nutrition is key. This will take at least two months before we can consider scheduling your surgery,” he informs her.

Amy acknowledges the struggle, admitting that Tammy’s vaping has morphed into another form of addiction. “It’s going to be tough for her to quit; she’s just swapped one security blanket for another,” she reflects.

During a candid moment with the producers, they ask Tammy about her worries regarding quitting vaping.

“I don’t want to discuss vaping. I’m about to lose it,” she snaps, storming off in frustration. “I could care less about it right now.”

And just like that, the sound of her vape is heard as she retreats behind the scenes, leaving us all wondering about her next move.
