Unlocking Potential: XA Investments’ Non-Listed Funds for December 2024!
CHICAGO, Dec. 23, 2024 — The financial landscape is buzzing, and it’s time you tuned in! XA Investments LLC (“XAI”), a trailblazer in alternative investment management and consulting, has been keeping a close eye on the booming non-listed closed-end funds (CEF) market. This sector, which encompasses interval and tender offer funds, is evolving rapidly, and the numbers speak volumes!
With 2024 winding down, excitement is in the air as the pace of new N-2 filings with the SEC is picking up speed! Just in November, we saw 5 fresh filings, bringing the total to 15 since the last quarter’s end. “This surge is incredible! Last year, we only had nine new filings in the fourth quarter,” exclaimed Kimberly Flynn, XAI’s President. That’s a staggering 66% jump year-over-year! As we look ahead, XAI anticipates that the first half of 2025 will unleash a wave of new alternative funds, making it a prime time for investors to explore their options.
According to XAI’s December market update, as of November 30, 2024, the non-listed CEF market boasts a robust lineup of 247 interval and tender offer funds, collectively managing an impressive $204 billion in assets—with $171 billion in net assets! Interval funds alone account for 60% of this total, with a whopping $121.8 billion. So far this year, we’ve added 35 funds and witnessed a $31 billion boost in net assets. Now is the time to get involved!
The market is bustling with 142 unique sponsors, including exciting new entrants like Rockefeller Asset Management, Booster Asset Management, and Gladstone Management Corporation. With 54 funds currently in the SEC registration pipeline, we are on the cusp of even more growth. Notably, recent filings from prestigious firms like Columbia Threadneedle and Coatue Management highlight the increasing interest in alternative investments from notable players in the industry.
One intriguing new contender is the Corient Registered Alternatives Fund, which filed on November 19, 2024. This fund, spearheaded by Segall Bryant & Hamill, aims to diversify across a range of alternatives including private equity, co-investments, and REITs. With such innovation in the market, it’s clear that Registered Investment Advisors (RIAs) are keen on crafting unique alternative products, a trend that’s set to flourish in 2025.
The future looks bright! XAI predicts that by the end of 2025, the combined assets of interval and tender offer funds could soar to $220 billion, with over 275 funds in action. Notably, the growth rate of interval funds (23% CAGR) is outpacing that of tender offer funds (16% CAGR), and as more long-duration alternatives emerge, we can expect this trend to accelerate. With private credit expected to lead the charge in fundraising and new fund formations, the momentum in this niche is undeniable!
