Watch Mom’s Heartwarming Reaction as Son Pays Off Her Mortgage!
Picture this: it’s Christmas morning, and the Ohanenye family is cozied up in their pajamas, the floor a colorful mess of wrapping paper and gifts. Amid the laughter and festive cheer, Levi Ohanenye, a 25-year-old son with a heart of gold, has one final surprise for his mom that’s about to steal the show.
As he approaches his mother, Genny Ohanenye, 57, he hands her a carefully folded piece of white paper, his excitement palpable.
“Merry Christmas! Thank you for every sacrifice you’ve made over these 25 years, especially these last 22,” Levi shares, his phone capturing the moment to share with the world.
With a gasp that echoes through the room, Genny uncovers the surprise hidden within the paper. The shock sends her heart racing as she re-reads the news.
Finally finding her voice, she exclaims, “Oh my Lord, to God be the glory!”
Overwhelmed with emotion, she thanks Levi, saying, “You know you didn’t have to do this!” Then, in disbelief, she repeats, “My house paid for. My house paid for. My house paid for.”
And just like that, Levi has transformed his mother’s life by paying off her mortgage. The heartwarming video of this unforgettable moment has taken Instagram by storm, racking up over 330,000 likes.
Levi shares that Genny has always gone above and beyond, working tirelessly to provide a better life for her children. She even moved into a larger home with a higher mortgage so Levi and his brother, Isaiah, could each have their own space.
“If she had stayed in her original house, it would have been paid off by now. But when we moved, the mortgage literally doubled,” Levi explains, revealing the weight of her sacrifices.
“I was in shock,” Genny recalls, her heart swelling with gratitude. “And after the shock faded, my next thought was to give glory to God, because nothing happens without Him.”
“I don’t think I’ll ever really be able to repay her for everything she’s done,” Levi admits. “But paying off that mortgage felt incredible.”
While Levi keeps the exact figure under wraps, Genny humorously notes it was “five figures and definitely has a comma.”
This spontaneous act of love came even after Levi faced the challenge of losing his job in corporate sales. He’s also a real estate agent, showcasing his determination to make this dream a reality.
“I’ve wanted to pay off her mortgage since college. I thought I’d have to wait, but recently, I felt it was time,” he reflects. “As I watched everyone open their gifts, it felt like God was saying, ‘Now’s the moment.’”
Genny reveals that Levi had been saving up for a house of his own. “For him to take his hard-earned money and ensure I’m secure for life is just incredible,” she says, her voice filled with pride.
“As a mother, I am so grateful… A house is an investment that appreciates over time, and my son just boosted that appreciation in my life,” she continues. “Thanks to him, I now have the option to retire comfortably.”
With the mortgage now a thing of the past, Isaiah is brainstorming ways for their mom to enjoy her paycheck without the monthly burden of payments.
At the top of Genny’s wish list? A walk-in closet—an absolute dream of hers! Second on the list is heating and cooling for her sunroom so she can nurture her beloved plants.
“When I moved into this house, the only thing I got was a room for my kids. That was my priority then,” she says. “But now, I can finally add the amenities I’ve always wanted.”
